migrant women lobbyis a peak women's group in South Australia (SA) and since 1984 has canvassed the issues, needs and concerns of a range of migrant women in SA.

The Lobby Group has been active in raising, discussing and addressing issues which have included how to access services and agencies, women in the workforce, unemployment, health, education, domestic violence the legal system and childcare.

The Lobby Group has women from all walks of life and has provided a voice for women from non-English Speaking Backgrounds in SA.

Over the years the MWLG has worked collaboratively with a number of government agencies and services and a range of ethnic organisations.

The objectives of the Migrant Women’s Lobby Group shall be:

In 2003 the
migrant women
  • implemented the plan of action from Interpreting: A Communication Bridge
  • planned and ran a series of information workshops for women
  • ran a Coming Together Forum for migrant and indigenous women
  • provided a voice for women from non-English speaking backgrounds on a range of issues
  • encouraged the participation by young women in MWLG activities
  • fostered the participation of women in decision making bodies, boards and councils,
  • worked with state and national women's groups
  • addresssed issues dealing with domestic violence, education, ageing and mental health
  • explored ways of assisting women to access reliable and quality services
  • implementing the Plan of Action from 2000 and Beyond Domestic Violence Forum Report.
  • implementing the plan of action from EDUCATION 2001:Issues for Migrant Communities Report of Proceedings
